It's no secret that Siesta Key Beach is one of the best around, so it was no surprise that Dr. Beach once again picked Siesta Key Beach as the #1 beach in America.

Siesta Key was also ranked the #1 beach in America in 2011, and #2 beach in America in 2016. There are so many reasons why Siesta Key is being repeatedly recognized not only by Dr. Beach, but also by U.S. News and Trip Advisor.

One reason for ranking Siesta Key #1 again, was the recent $21 million in renovations to the beach and it's amenities. The improvements included  expanded parking, new concessions, restrooms, and a playground. These investments by Sarasota County only added to the pristine beauty of Siesta Key.

Another reason for the top ranking is Dr. Beach's criteria such as water temperature, shape of beach, wildlife, sand texture, rip currents, number of sunny days, water color, and smell are just a few of the criteria Dr. Beach rates the beaches on. Siesta Key Beach is unique, because unlike most Florida beaches where the sand is made of pulverized crystal, Siesta's sands are made from quartz minerals that were carried down from the Appalachian mountains.
